New Team Member // Katy Strader, Teaching Fellow

image Hello! Hola! Bonjour! My name is Katy Strader, and I am one of the newest members of the DAA team. This last couple of weeks as the Kindergarten Teaching Fellow has been a rollercoaster-one that I hope to keep riding for a while! I am originally from Indianapolis, but spent four lovely years Greencastle, Indiana for my undergraduate study at DePauw University.  Post- Depauw I took a job with a non-profit organization that has small development projects in El Salvador, Central America. And although I miss El Salvador and it’s culture dearly, Detroit is quickly starting to feel like home!

The DAA community has made me feel welcome since day one. I am incredibly blessed to be apart of such a dynamic, hard-working, dedicated group of individuals. I truly believe that big things are happening here. And the best part? The KIDS! Talk about a curious, excited, and thoughtful group of little humans! They are capable of so much, and I cannot wait to see where they are at the end of this school year.

The DAA cheer goes, “DAA! Achieve! DAA! Hopes and dreams!” We learned this cheer at our first Community Crew last week.  In class since then, we have been talking about our hopes and dreams for DAA and for ourselves. My hope is that the DAA community continues to grow, flourish and push towards excellence.  And my dream is to see my first group (and of course all those that follow!) of kindergarteners go on to high school and then college!
