Elsa 2.0

Hi! I’m Elsa 2.0, the newest addition to the DAA crew. (Does this sound familiar?) Unfortunately, the first Elsa is no longer with us (more on that later), and I’m the lucky reptile that gets to live with the first grade crew members! Mr. Brophy, the snake expert, brought me here this week. I was impressed with how much the first graders knew! They helped Mr. Brophy remember all the things a corn snake needs in its habitat. They knew about a lot of my behaviors and physical features, too. I feel so safe here – I definitely won’t try to escape from my new home.

Before I arrived, my new crew had already chosen my name. Based on their vote, it looks like the movie Frozen is still a pretty big deal. Some other options were Sandra, Batman, Meghan (Trainor), Buzz (Lightyear), Thomas, Kimberly, Annie, Beast, and Pebbles. Which name do you think most suits me?

While I’m here I will help the first grade crew a lot. They will observe me and draw me scientifically for a high quality product. One thing Expeditionary Learning focuses on is the revision process, so they will be getting feedback on their drawings and revising them many times. Good thing I’ll be here for them to study! They will also use me to practice measurement and how to record data. They will keep track of how long I am and how much I weigh.

So. What happened to the original Elsa? I’ve heard a few different things… I’ll let you decide what you think is true.

Option #1: Even though DAA has the most respectful, responsible, compassionate students ever, every once in a while they forget to be great. Elsa was just a baby, and she was scared when the first graders were too loud and not kind to each other. Their teachers had to send Elsa back to Mr. Brophy until they learned to be respectful and compassionate all the time.

Option #2: The DAA staff had a Fun Friday surprise a few weeks ago... A 6:45 A.M. (intended) Elsa cuddle turned into a scavenger hunt. Everyone searched her cage and all the warm, dark places they could find. Who knew a tiny baby snake could escape and hide herself so well?! Bright side: DAA will never have a mouse problem!

Next time you’re here, come say hi! I don’t bite and I love to be held. My teachers would gladly let you feed me, if you’re interested. (Do you know what corn snakes eat?!)
