Leadership Transition at DAA

Hello DAA friends and community!

I wanted to write to let you know about a recent decision I have made that will affect the leadership at DAA.  I have made a very difficult decision to step down as principal of Detroit Achievement Academy.  My plan is to pursue my other passion as a psychotherapist in private practice on a part time basis, but mostly to be able to spend more time at home with my two young children, who are growing so fast right before my eyes.

While this decision has been a difficult and personal one, I am 100% confident in the staff, families, and students of DAA!  After Thanksgiving, Jen McMillan will step into the role of Acting Principal.  Mrs. McMillan is a born leader, and will be an absolutely excellent person to lead DAA on the next step of its incredible journey.  She has the skills, drive, and commitment to take DAA to even greater levels of success as a partner with Ms. Kyle, the teachers, the students, their families, and with you.

I have so appreciated my time building this amazing school.  I want to thank all of you so much for all the support you’ve given DAA from the very beginning.  I am so proud of the part I’ve played in building a great place for kids from the ground up. What a special and wonderful honor!  I know that DAA will continue to thrive, and I look forward to seeing the amazing things the future holds.

I am happy that I will still be able to be around the school providing consultation to our social workers and helping out in other ways.  I will be a lifelong believer in the school’s mission, and always here if any member of the DAA community needs me.

Sincerely,
Sharon Yaecker Roesser, MS, LMSW
