Kindergarten ABC Countdown

As we approach the end of the year days start to get long - for students and teachers! To keep coming to school an exciting and fun experience Kinder B is doing an ABC Countdown for the last 26 days of school! Maximizing how much our students learn is, of course, always the aim but so is maximizing their joy - the ABC countdown functions to keep our spirits up and our joy overflowing.

Each day has a theme or an activity that’s based on the specific letter of the alphabet that we’re on. For instance; A was for stuffed Animals! Students brought their best stuffed friends to school with them so they could learn alongside them - we talked about how everybody’s animal was different, what kind of jobs our stuffed animals have, and how we can be responsible with our toys while we’re at school. To tie in our Habits of Character during crew we discussed how one shows compassion to their toys and how to extend that to others’ toys as well; we touched on being responsible with our toys, how we using curiosity and creativity when we play pretend, and generally how we can show all the Habits during stuffed animal day.

Not all the themes involve bringing something from home and some are more low lift than others - we had popsicles on I for Ice pops, we had a limbo competition for L day, and we’ll have popcorn at snack for P. They’re about having fun as a crew and making this last month of school memorable!

There’s a couple days that will be spent really reflecting on the year and what first grade will be like - we have T for Thank you when we’ll write thank you notes to all the adults that help us during the school year but aren’t our teacher (they’re very excited to thank Ms. Krystal for always bringing snack) and N is for Next Year’s Teachers where they’ll get to formally meet the first grade team and ask what’s the biggest thing they need to be prepared for!

The ABC countdown has been fun! It’s helping us work on one less as we countdown, keeping students engaged and motivated, and just bringing a last blast of joy to our classroom.
