In 2024, our graduating class led a year-long collaboration with SANA Detroit to reimagine what it means to get dressed for school.
They sketched, selected, and styled a look that reflects who they are—and who they want DAA students to become.
It’s bold. It’s rooted in Detroit. And it’s already making an impact!

Every Tuesday at 7 PM this summer, we’re releasing a new video (on Instagram and Youtube!) showing how the uniform came to life—from sketch to final fit. Follow along and hear directly from the students who designed it.

Uniforms level the playing field.
They reduce social pressure, encourage pride, and help students focus on what really matters.
But most uniforms miss the mark on representation and design.
That’s why our students teamed up with SANA Detroit to do something no one else in the country has done before.
SANA joined us because they believe what we believe: That everyone deserves to feel powerful, proud, and seen in what they wear - even students. And that the cost of a uniform should never stand in the way of a child feeling like they belong.
We’re committed to access—and that comes at a cost.
Just a few years ago, uniforms at DAA cost $5.
Today, they cost between $30 and $60 per student, depending on sizing and need.
