Leading with Love: The Heart of Our Crew

In my crew, we don’t just focus on letters, numbers, and learning how to read…we focus on learning how to be good people. Our classroom motto, our mantra, is simple but powerful: lead with love.

To my kindergarteners that doesn’t just sound like something nice to say. It’s something we practice every single day.

Leading with love shows up in how we talk to each other. We use kind words. We give compliments. We cheer each other on. We speak life into one another with praise, encouragement, and well wishes. Even when it’s hard, we choose words that build instead of break.

It shows up in how we play. We share. We include others. We show compassion when a friend is sad or struggling. We learn that being loving doesn’t mean everything is always perfect, it means we care enough to do the right thing, even when it takes a little extra  effort.

It also shows in how we handle mistakes.  Because we all make them. But we have learned that mistakes are moments to grow, to reflect, and to try again…with love.

What I’ve noticed is this: when children are taught to lead with love, they take ownership of it. They remind each other. They hold each other accountable. They start to build something that feels more than a classroom…it feels like a family.

And that’s the goal.

Because this isn’t just about kindergarten. This is about life.

If they can learn now to speak kindly, act with compassion, include others and move through the world with love at the core, they are already becoming the kind of people this world needs more of.

Leading with love teaches respect.
It builds community.
It creates safety.
And most importantly, it shapes character.

I always tell my students: if you lead with love in everything you do, you can’t go wrong.

And the beautiful part is… they believe it. And even more than that…they live it and that shows all the habits of character!!!!
