Perseverance: The Power of Not Giving Up

At Detroit Achievement Academy, perseverance is one of the habits of character we aim to display every day. It’s something we practice in our classrooms, in our activities, and even in the way we support one another. Perseverance helps us grow stronger as learners and as people, and it reminds us to keep moving forward, even when things are not easy.

Cracking the Code of Perseverance

Showing perseverance means challenging yourself to keep growing, even when the task is not easy. It’s about actively seeking activities that are hard, pushing yourself to do your best, and not settling for “good enough.” Perseverance also means setting goals, staying focused on them, and working step by step to reach them. Sometimes this looks like going back to revise and edit your work to make it stronger, even when it takes extra time and effort or trying a new challenging activity on the playground. When we show perseverance, we prove to ourselves that determination and hard work lead to growth and success.

Perseverance in Action: How Our Students Keep Going Strong

This week, students showed perseverance in the classroom by working hard to complete challenging assignments and not giving up, even when the work felt tough. They pushed themselves to stay focused, put in their best effort, and keep going until their tasks were finished. A graphic organizer created by our 3rd grade students, where they shared what it means to show perseverance and the different ways they practice it in their own learning. How will you show perseverance this week?
