Winter Fest Snowcoming: A Story Brought to Life by Student Leadership, Creativity, and Community
This year’s Winter Fest Snowcoming was more than a performance — it was a story brought to life through movement, imagination, and an extraordinary level of student leadership.
At the heart of Snowcoming was a winter-themed storyline that unfolded on stage through dance, narration, music, and visual moments that carried the audience from beginning to end. The joy of the evening ultimately led to unfreezing our snowman on the finale performance! What made this production especially meaningful was how student-led it truly was. Our DAA students were not only performers— they were leaders, collaborators, and creators who took ownership of the entire experience.
Many of our 6th and 7th grade students played multiple roles, both on stage and behind the scenes. These students stepped up as dance assistants, stagehands, prop managers, and performers within their own crew projects. Their responsibility, focus, and teamwork were essential to keeping the show running smoothly and allowed the Snowcoming story to unfold seamlessly. Their leadership was evident in every transition, cue, and confident moment on stage.
The success of Winter Fest Snowcoming was also a testament to the high-quality pre-work and behind-the-scenes preparation that our volunteer staff supported and took lead on long before show day. From detailed planning and rehearsals to thoughtful organization backstage, every layer of preparation contributed to how effortlessly the magic came alive on stage. When students are supported by strong systems, clear expectations, and collaborative adults, they rise to the occasion — and they did exactly that.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our DAA families for their trust, flexibility, and encouragement. Your support created an environment where our performers felt safe, prepared, and celebrated.
A special thank-you goes out to the many individuals whose dedication made this production possible:
● Ms. Emily, for her creativity, diligence and timeliness in creating the show programs
● Mr. Paul and his wife Debbie, for being absolutely clutch in helping alter costumes
● Our CFO, Ms. Alexa, for creating narration cards that supported our brave student hosts— who were thoughtfully chosen as the perfect storytellers for Snowcoming
● Mr. Lemons, for leading audio with precision while keeping timing and integrity on point
● Toni McKinney, a 1st grade Mom, for supplying winter hats that helped bring our 1st grade show openers to life
● Ms Kelly who organized parent support in getting our students’ art on the walls, facilitated all prop and stage designs, and played an integral role during weeks of rehearsals with crews
Adding a powerfully courageous moment to the evening, three of our very own DAA 5th graders, the BOLT Girls, made their debut performance by singing an original a cappella creation. Their bravery, creativity, and artistry captivated the audience and added a unique and heartfelt layer to the Snowcoming narrative. Watching students take creative risks and share their voices so boldly was one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Winter Fest Snowcoming reminded us of what’s possible when students are trusted with responsibility, creativity is encouraged, and a community comes together in support. The overwhelmingly positive feedback following the show — including a glowing “10 out of 10!” — affirmed the impact of this unforgettable celebration.
We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the village that continues to help them shine. Winter Fest: Snowcoming was not just a performance — it was a powerful example of student ownership, collaboration, and joy in action!
